Southampton Huddersfield prediction 2024-02-10

Southampton vs Huddersfield prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-02-09 15:00.
Southampton are targeting a quarter of a century of unbeaten games (W17, D7) this Saturday afternoon when they host lowly Huddersfield Town. Second in the table and on course for an immediate return to the Premier League, the Saints have won their last ten home matches, scoring 30 goals in the process, including a 3-0 victory over Watford in an FA Cup fifth round replay on Tuesday night.

You have to go back to mid-September for the last time Russell Martin’s side were beaten at home and it’s not just in scoring where they have impressed, as they’ve conceded only one goal in their last eight at St Mary’s Stadium! Already full of confidence, the sight of the Terriers travelling south is only likely to boost belief as they haven’t lost at home to them since way back in 1971!

Jon Worthington is the man tasked with changing almost 53 years of history, as he takes charge of Huddersfield as caretaker manager for just the second game following Darren Moore’s sacking at the end of January. And he couldn’t have asked for a better start to his tenure as his side put four goals past fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday last weekend to extend their unbeaten record to four games (W1, D3).

However, with this the first of seven matches against sides currently in 13th place or above in the division, Worthington’s honeymoon period could well prove a short one. That’s especially likely to be the case when considering their seven game winless league run on the road (D4, L3), a run which threatens to be their undoing as they sit dangerously close to the drop zone.

Players to watch: Che Adams has scored in all three of Southampton’s home games in 2024 and the Saints have not lost in any of the ten matches (W8, D2) he has scored this season. Huddersfield’s Josh Koroma has a similarly strong record when he finds the net. He hit two against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday and has not finished on the losing side when scoring since April 2021, a run of 17 games (W10, D7)!

Hot stat: Huddersfield have kept only two clean sheets in their last 33 away matches.
