Union Berlin Wolfsburg prediction 2024-02-10

Union Berlin vs Wolfsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-02-09 14:30.
Time is running out for Union Berlin to salvage anything tangible from what has been their worst Bundesliga season to date, with a midweek 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Mainz meaning they’ve now won just one game in 2024 (D2, L2). Their poor performances also mean the dreaded bottom three is still clear in their rear-view mirror, as they finished the last round sitting in 15th place and just three points above Cologne.

The Iron Ones will at least have manager Nenad Bjelica back in the dugout for this one after he served a three-game touchline ban. That could hand the hosts a boost, as could returning to action in front of their own fans since Union have won their last three home Bundesliga matches, conceding just one goal along the way.

Visitors Wolfsburg will be keen to spoil the party and follow up their 2-1 win over their hosts in the reverse fixture, but achieving a first league double looks a tough ask when you consider they’re winless in their last five visits to Union (D2, L3). Wolfsburg had to take the lead twice back in September to secure victory, but having dropped 15 points from winning positions this season – only Borussia Mönchengladbach 23 have dropped more – it’s fair to say the away side won’t be getting ahead of themselves even with an early lead here.

The Wolves come into the clash on the back of a rare four-game run of draws, which comes after sharing the spoils just once in their 22 top-flight games prior to that. They embarked on this streak immediately after a loss, meaning failure to win here would see them register six consecutive Bundesliga matches without victory for the first time under manager Niko KovaÄŤ.

Players to watch: Robin Gosens netted Union’s solitary goal in the reverse fixture, contributing to all six of his strikes this season coming before half-time. He’ll face old teammate Kevin Behrens who moved from Union to Wolfsburg right at the end of the January transfer window, and he’ll know where the goal is since eight of his last ten goals all came at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Hot stat: Union have only lost three of the last 21 Bundesliga home matches they’ve started as betting favourites (W13, D5).
