Genoa vs Atalanta prediction: ITALY: Serie A betting tips on match 2024-02-10 17:00.
Two sides yet to be defeated in 2024 meet on Sunday evening as Genoa and Atalanta, occupying 11th and fourth place respectively in the Serie A standings ahead of this round of fixtures, lock horns. Despite what their mid-table position may suggest, the Griffin have gone eight games unbeaten (W3, D5) since mid-December and at home are looking to make it nine matches since their last loss (W4, D4).
Their strong run has been built on a solid defence which has not been breached more than once in a single match since late November (W3, D6, L2), and Alberto Gilardino’s side maintained this streak with a 0-0 stalemate away at Empoli last weekend, one week after they came from behind to beat Lecce 2-1 in their last home match. That helped solidify their position in mid-table and leaves them with their sights set on a first top-half finish in the top flight since 2015/16.
For their part, Atalanta are on track for their eighth successive top-seven finish in Serie A and they travel south to the Mediterranean coast in fantastic form after winning nine of their last 11 games across all competitions (D1, L1). And another victory in Genoa would make it five wins on the bounce after they saw off Lazio 3-1 at home last weekend.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s team have already beaten Genoa this season, 2-0 back in October’s reverse fixture, and have in fact dominated them at home and away over the last decade. Since May 2016, Atalanta have lost only one of the 14 H2Hs (W9, D4), and with clean sheets in four of their last five, a strong defence has been the bedrock of their success.
Players to watch: Mateo Retegui registered two goals and an assist in Genoa’s final two games of January and his side are unbeaten when he’s found the net this season (W5, D1). On loan Atalanta midfielder Charles De Ketelaere has already amassed five goals and three assists this calendar year alone. The Belgian has directly contributed to at least one goal in 11 matches this season and Atalanta have not experienced defeat in any of those games!
Hot stat: Atalanta have won only three of eight Serie A games as an away favourite this season (D1, L4).
