Huddersfield vs Sunderland prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-02-13 19:45.
Since relieving Darren Moore of his duties, Huddersfield have become the Championship’s great entertainers, following up their 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday with a 5-3 defeat to Southampton. That defeat was hard to take for the Terriers who led 2-0 at the break, but a “really proud” caretaker boss Jon Worthington was all smiles in spite of being on the end of a comeback for the ages.
But the reason Worthington was thrust into the management role is because of Huddersfield’s increasingly tense battle for survival, and there’s no immediate respite coming with their next four league opponents finishing the weekend in the top-half of the table. Moreover, the Terriers have struggled badly at home to higher ranked opposition, failing to beat a single side that were above 17th-placed Blackburn (D5, L5) after the weekend.
Sunderland would do well not to underestimate their hosts here though, as the Black Cats lost the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light back in December. The Wearsiders have lost just four of their following 13 Championship matches though (W6, D3), and ended the last round level on points with the play-off places after breezing past Plymouth at the weekend.
Despite their far superior league position and recent overall results, Sunderland are in danger of being doubled by Hudersfield if their away form is anything to go by. They’ve won just one of their last ten Championship away games (D4, L5) – that’s despite being the pre-match favourites six times in that period (W1, D3, L2), so it may not be a surprise to see another slip-up!
Players to watch: Following his previous home outing, Josh Koroma’s last five Championship goals for Huddersfield came at home. On the contrary, all but three of Jack Clarke’s 14 league goals were recorded on the road.
Hot stat: The second half was the highest scoring half in eight of Huddersfield’s last ten league games, as well as in nine of Sunderland’s last 12.
