Millwall Sheffield Wed prediction 2024-02-17

Millwall vs Sheffield Wed prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-02-16 15:00.
Millwall’s struggles continued on Wednesday as they were thrashed 4-0 by Ipswich Town for their sixth defeat in seven matches across all competitions (D1). As a consequence of that loss to the Tractor Boys, the Lions now sit 21st and just four points clear of the relegation zone, and after picking up just a single point in their last six league games since beating Bristol City 1-0 on New Year’s Day, Joe Edwards’ men could be forgiven for wanting to turn the clock back.

The midweek defeat was damning, but Millwall have certainly performed better than that at The Den in recent times, losing only twice in their last seven Championship home encounters (W2, D3). The Londoners have a chance to further improve that form with a victory on Saturday, which will not just erase recent hurt, but also seal a first league double over Sheffield Wednesday since 2002/03, having won last November’s reverse fixture 4-0.

Wednesday endured a disappointing Tuesday, suffering a 2-0 defeat at leaders Leicester City – their third loss in four games (W1). Seven points adrift of safety, the Owls aren't doing enough to quell fears of immediate relegation as goals remain an issue. They have scored a league-low 24 times this season, something that might not necessarily change here, after netting just once across the last six H2Hs (D3, L3).

Adding to the misery, the visitors have failed to find the net in ten of their last 14 league away outings this term (W2, D1, L11). One goal could do the job in the capital though, as Wednesday’s two wins on their travels in 2023/24 have been 1-0, the same scoreline as their most recent trip to London last February (against Charlton).

Players to watch: Tom Bradshaw seems to enjoy facing Wednesday, having assisted Millwall’s last goal in the reverse fixture and only tasting defeat once in personal career meetings with them (W3, D5). Anthony Musaba has got the opener in three of his four league scoring appearances, including in one of their two away victories so far this campaign (1-0 at Stoke City).

Hot stat: Wednesday have lost a league-high 17 matches when conceding first this season.
