Plymouth West Brom prediction 2024-02-20

Plymouth vs West Brom prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-02-19 19:45.
With no wins from their last three league games (D1, L2), and just a five-point cushion above the relegation zone, 16th-placed Plymouth Argyle are starting to look anxiously over their shoulder as they host fifth-placed West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening. This will be the Pilgrims’ third successive home match, but so far they have picked up only one point in this run, conceding four goals along the way as their nine-match league home unbeaten streak was ended by Leeds on Saturday.

Two of their three previous home defeats in the Championship this season were followed by 3-0 victories in their next games at Home Park. New manager Ian Foster has made “entertainment” a key aspiration for the rest of the season and would certainly welcome a similar response, particularly against the Baggies who Plymouth have failed to beat in any of their seven H2Hs (D2, L5) played since April 1993!

In addition to extending that drought to 31 years, West Brom also need to fight off some teams directly below them. Their place in the play-offs is far from secure with Coventry, Norwich and Hull all trailing them by just one point. Carlos Corberán’s side were beaten 2-0 at home by Southampton on Friday evening and they travel to Devon with only one point from their last four away games.

Corberán hailed “a new air of positivity” after American business Shilen Patel agreed a deal to purchase 87.8% of the club last week and the head coach will be keen to channel that energy into their fifth away win of this campaign. There’s no escaping the fact that since November West Brom have beaten only bottom-of-the-table Rotherham United on the road (D1, L4), so away fans could be excused for having modest expectations.

Players to watch: Morgan Whittaker has accumulated 13 goals at Home Park this season and is yet to lose a home match for Plymouth Argyle when he scores (W12, D4). John Swift has been involved in eight West Brom goals this season (G7, A1) with five of the last six coming in away fixtures including a goal at Ipswich in their last away match.

Hot stat: Plymouth have drawn 0-0 in just one of their last 50 home games in all competitions!
