Bayer Leverkusen Mainz prediction 2024-02-23

Bayer Leverkusen vs Mainz prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-02-22 19:30.
Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 win at Heidenheim extended their unbeaten run to 32 competitive games this season (W28, D4). That result saw them equal Bayern Munich’s all-time German record for the longest unbeaten streak, but Leverkusen will now be aiming to claim it outright as they take on Mainz, knowing victory could stretch their lead atop of the Bundesliga to 11 points before Bayern take to the field this weekend.

A quick peek at Leverkusen’s home for this league season (W9, D2) would suggest they will have no trouble becoming the sole record holders, as they are the best Bundesliga performers on home soil, conceding a league-low six goals along the way. You could argue Mainz pose a great threat to that run though, as Leverkusen’s home H2H record in the Bundesliga isn’t great (W8, D4, L5), and they also lost the last one 3-2 almost exactly a year ago!

Mainz ended a run of eleven winless league games (D6, L5) with a 1-0 victory over Augsburg last weekend in what was a perfect start to the reign of Bo Henriksen, their third coach this season. While that’s undoubtedly a positive start, his predecessor Jan Siewert also opened his reign with a victory before following it up with that eleven-game winless run that led to his dismissal, so Henriksen will be taking nothing for granted just yet.

Sat in 17th and bang in trouble at the foot of the table, Mainz have averaged fewer Bundesliga points per game on the road than any other side (0.55 – D6, L5), and considering only two of those points were collected at top-half teams, this trip suddenly seems even more daunting. Never write them off though, as they’ve collected half of their points on the road this season after falling behind.

Players to watch: Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong scored the opener against Heidenheim, but he was the final goalscorer in their last home win, a famous 3-0 triumph against Bayern. Sepp van den Berg secured the win for Mainz last weekend with his second Bundesliga goal of the season, while his first secured them their last away point in a 1-1 at Dortmund.

Hot stat: Mainz are unbeaten in their last three Bundesliga games against sides starting the day top of the table (W2, D1).
