Union Berlin Heidenheim prediction 2024-02-24

Union Berlin vs Heidenheim prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-02-23 14:30.
After picking up just one point from a possible 30 between the months of September and November 2023, Union Berlin turned things around dramatically to add 17 points from the following ten rounds (W5, D2, L3). That’s thanks in no small part to the tutelage of new boss Nenad Bjelica, who was appointed at the beginning of that much-improved ten game run of league games.

Fears of relegation had been rife in the capital, but as they entered this round eight points clear of the bottom three and just three points away from the top half of the table, the Berliners could be forgiven for readjusting their expectations for this season. Keeping it tight at the back may be important to grabbing a positive result as four of the Iron Ones’ league wins under Bjelica came with clean sheets, three of which were accompanied by a slender 1-0 scoreline.

Newly promoted side Heidenheim are wedged in mid-table and have seemingly put their own relegation fears behind them with an 11-point cushion to the bottom three ahead of this round. Whilst they were the latest victim of the rampant Bayer Leverkusen last round (L 2-1), a solid run of eight unbeaten league games prior to that (W4, D4) suggests there may be a resurgent performance here.

Similarly to their hosts, Heidenheim have shown much improvement away from home across the season. Having picked up just one of the first 21 available road points (D1, L6), Heidenheim have since remained unbeaten across their last four league trips (W2, D2). The latest match in that sequence saw Heidenheim register a winning league double over Werder Bremen, something they can now inflict upon Union for the first time since 2016/17.

Players to watch: Danilho Doekhi has found himself in and amongst the action of late for Union, scoring a winning goal and picking up two yellow cards across his last three appearances. As for Heidenheim, Tim Kleindienst scored a consolation goal against Leverkusen last weekend, something which may feel familiar as he lost in three of his last five scoring appearances.

Hot stat: Union Berlin won all but one of their league games when scoring first this season (W7, D1) and lost all but one when conceding the opening goal (D1, L12).
