Mainz B. Monchengladbach prediction 2024-03-02

Mainz vs B. Monchengladbach prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-03-01 14:30.
Mainz gave Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen a real fright last Friday (L 2-1), producing a battling performance that belies their position of second-from-bottom in the standings ahead of this matchday. Needing to kick on from that effort and record a positive result in this one, time is of the utmost essence as they’ve won just one of their last 13 league fixtures (D6, L6), and as a result are now an alarming ten points from safety.

Facing a tall order to preserve their top-flight status then, the 05ers are at least making themselves hard to beat at home, where they’ve only lost one of their last four league outings (W1, D2). The goals aren’t exactly flowing though, so a repeat of last season’s 4-0 win here over Borussia Mönchengladbach appears unlikely, even if they’re unbeaten in the last six H2Hs at any venue (W3, D3).

As Gladbach are one of four sides that start the round ten points ahead of Mainz, they could yet get sucked into a relegation battle this term, though a huge 5-2 win over fellow strugglers Bochum last weekend did at least relieve some pressure. That result ended a five-match winless run in the league (D2, L3) as five different players got on the scoresheet, something that “thrilled” manager Gerardo Seoane in particular.

That should build some much-needed confidence as Bochum are the only team Gladbach have beaten on the road this term, yet they did draw 0-0 at league leaders Leverkusen last month too. Seoane now needs his Foals to raise their game against another struggling side, and if it comes at the expense of entertainment, he won’t mind as their Bundesliga away games this term have produced a league-high average of 4.27 goals per game (W1, D4, L6)!

Players to watch: Lee Jae-Sung opened the scoring for Mainz in this fixture last term and each of his last six goalscoring club appearances saw him net the first of the game, whilst Gladbach’s Florian Neuhaus’ last two goals came between the 20th and 30th minute, the latest of which was against Mainz in October.

Hot stat: Gladbach possess the Bundesliga’s weakest second-half record on the road this term (2H: W1, D2, L8).
