Newcastle vs Brentford prediction: ENGLAND: EFL Cup betting tips on match 2024-12-17 19:45.
[p]A 4-0 win over Leicester at the weekend was timely for Newcastle as it snapped a four-match winless run just in time for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Brentford. The Magpies are dreaming of Wembley again after reaching the final of this competition in 2022/23, but after they were knocked out at this very stage last season, they’ll be a little wary ahead of this clash.[/p]
[p]That rings especially true as they were beaten 4-2 on the road by Brentford earlier this month, but at home Newcastle are a different animal, particularly in this competition. The Magpies have won seven consecutive home games in the League Cup, and considering six of the seven came against sides currently in the Premier League, it’s no surprise to see they’re clear favourites here.[/p]
[p]To overcome that tag, Brentford will have to do something they haven’t managed to do since 1934 – win away to Newcastle. Ending that long wait here seems improbable at best for a Brentford side who have been horrifically bad on the road this season, losing seven of their eight away league games (D1), although their only travelling win this term did come in this competition against League Two Colchester. [/p]
[p]Thomas Frank’s side fell to another travelling defeat at the weekend when they went down 2-1 away to Chelsea, and being handed an away tie here desperately harms their chances of securing only a second-ever semi-final berth in this competition. Their best route to success in search of doing so likely relies on a clean sheet as they’ve only scored once in seven of their last eight away games! [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Alexander Isak tends to get his work done early with his last seven Newcastle goals all coming before the hour mark, while six of those were the team’s first of the game. More likely to get on the wrong side of the referee than on the scoresheet, Christian Nørgaard has been booked on his two prior appearances at St James’ Park. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: 15 of Brentford’s last 16 games saw both teams score.[/p]
