Manchester Utd Southampton prediction 2025-01-16

Manchester Utd vs Southampton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-01-15 20:00.
[p]Two clear weeks on the training pitch have done the world of good for Manchester United, who followed up an impressive display to draw away at Liverpool by knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup. A gruelling 120-minute showdown – decided by Joshua Zirkzee’s winning penalty in the shootout – saw Ruben Amorim’s side play with ten men from the 61st minute onwards, so fatigue will undoubtedly be a factor as they host Southampton.[/p]

[p]Amorim, and indeed captain Bruno Fernandes, have challenged the rest of the squad to show the same desire against less illustrious opponents. There’s no greater test of that than the Premier League’s basement boys who United are unbeaten against in the last 15 PL H2Hs (W7, D8), but there’s certainly trepidation in the Old Trafford air given that the hosts have lost their last three home league games – their last streak of four in the top-flight came way back in 1930![/p]

[p]For the first time since early November, Southampton are gearing up for a match on the back of a win. Ivan Jurić’s first victory in the Saints dugout came via a 3-0 success over second-tier Swansea in the FA Cup, but three consecutive losses under his leadership in the Premier League shows the scale of the job in front of him as he looks to achieve mission impossible.[/p]

[p]A whopping ten points from safety pre-round, that gap will only grow if Southampton’s astonishing 17-match winless away run in the Premier League continues much longer (D4, L13). That’s the second-longest such streak in the club’s top-flight history, but Old Trafford has become a friendlier venue for them of late, as after losing 13 of their first 14 Premier League visits here, the Saints have lost just three of the last ten (W2, D5).[/p]

[p]Players to watch: United winger Amad Diallo stands on the verge of history, as he could become the first African player to directly contribute to ten Premier League goals in a season for the Red Devils with another here (G3, A6). Tyler Dibling’s first start in this competition came in the reverse fixture (L 3-0), and he comes into this clash in fine form having scored three times in as many matches for Southampton.[/p]

[p]Hot streak: Man Utd haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last ten matches (W3, D1, L6).[/p]
