Union Berlin vs Mainz prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2025-01-18 14:30.
[p]Union Berlin’s horrendous winless run now stands at 11 matches, with ten of those in the Bundesliga. Of great concern to new head coach Steffen Baumgart will be that eight of those 11 encounters have been defeats, while the capital club failed to score six times during that sequence, including in Wednesday night’s 2-0 loss at home to Augsburg. [/p]
[p]As a result of that terrible form, Union now find themselves just three points above the relegation play-off place heading into this weekend. If Die Eisernen are to boost their survival prospects with a victory here against overachievers Mainz, don’t expect it to be a high-scoring affair, as there have only been 16 goals in the team’s eight Bundesliga home games this season. [/p]
[p]Mainz by contrast find themselves sixth after matchday 17 despite a 1-0 midweek defeat at Bayer Leverkusen – a position they could scarcely have imagined being in after finishing 13th last season. Key to their success this term has been their strong league away form (W4, D2, L2), a record which includes a mightily impressive 3-1 win at high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt while down to ten men, although those two defeats have come in their last three such games. [/p]
[p]Knowing that they haven’t beaten Union in the last seven H2Hs (D3, L4) may dampen Mainz spirits slightly, especially given that they have thrown away three 1-0 leads during that run, but the 05ers have generally fared well when going in front this season, winning eight of 11 such Bundesliga encounters (D2, L1). [/p]
[p]Players to watch: László Bénes equalised in August’s reverse fixture, but just three of the midfielder’s last eight goalscoring appearances at club level have seen him emerge victorious (D1, L4). When Mainz last won (2-0 against Bochum earlier this month) Phillipp Mwene chipped in with an assist, but he can be ill-disciplined too, as he received a yellow card in three of the four games before that win. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: There hasn’t been a single goal scored after the 75th minute in a Union home league game this term.[/p]
