Southampton Newcastle prediction 2025-01-25

Southampton vs Newcastle prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-01-24 15:00.
[p]It’s a near certainty that Southampton will be playing in the Championship again next season, with the Saints winning just one of their 22 Premier League games this term (D3, L18). When converting to three points for a win across the whole of time, Southampton’s’ six points is the joint-second lowest tally after 22 top-flight games, with only Bolton in 1902/03 ever having fewer at this stage (3), so recovering from this position seems nigh-on impossible.[/p]

[p]The Saints start their unlikely road to redemption against Newcastle, but playing the north east club doesn’t offer much hope, as they’ve won just one of the last 13 Premier League H2Hs (D3, L9). New boss Ivan Juric will hope he can be the man to break that spell, but having lost all five of his Premier League games in charge, he’s finding the adaptation process difficult himself. [/p]

[p]At the other end of the table, Newcastle saw their joint-club record nine-match winning streak ended by Bournemouth last week in a humbling 4-1 home defeat. They’ll be confident of bouncing back having not lost successive games since October, and having won their last three Premier League away games, they could now win four such games in a row for the first time since October 1996![/p]

[p]A record of one defeat from their last 23 Premier League games against promoted sides (W14, D8) would suggest they’re good value to do so, as would the fact the Magpies have won all six H2Hs since Eddie Howe took over. As if they needed any more cause for optimism, Newcastle have won seven of their eight Premier League games against sides starting this round 15th or lower (D1). [/p]

[p]Players to watch: Paul Onuachu opened his Southampton account in a 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest last week, with that stoppage time strike ending a run of four first-half goals at club level. Bruno Guimarães was also on target last weekend, but he’s more commonly on the floor, as he has been fouled 76 times in the Premier League this season, the most of any player. [/p]

[p]Hot stat: Southampton have conceded a league-high eight Premier League home goals after the 75th minute this term.[/p]
