Monaco vs Rennes prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2025-01-24 16:00.
[p]Amid their pursuit of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) knockout phase, Monaco are in a difficult fight to qualify for the 2025/26 edition of the competition via their Ligue 1 standing. They ended matchday 18 in fourth place, which would currently send them into the third qualifying round of next season’s UCL, after a 2-1 defeat at bottom-of-the-table Montpellier stretched their winless league run to four games (D2, L2). [/p]
[p]There was only one home match in that four-game stretch – a 4-2 loss to leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Their general record in Ligue 1 this season at Stade Louis II has been strong however, winning five of their seven encounters on their own patch against clubs beneath them in the table at the start of the weekend (D1, L1), and boss Adi HĂĽtter’s perfect managerial H2H record against Rennes (W3) should reinforce belief here. [/p]
[p]For all Monaco’s recent struggles in Ligue 1, Rennes are in even worse form, opening 2025 with a four-game competitive losing streak – a run which includes being embarrassingly dumped out of the Coupe de France by Ligue 2 side Troyes. It has been a terrible start for boss Jorge Sampaoli, who has already attracted derision from supporters expressing no confidence in his stewardship, despite only being appointed in November.  [/p]
[p]Sampaoli’s only three victories from his nine games in charge of Rennes so far (L6) have been against clubs who spent last season in Ligue 2, underlining the need for him to earn all three points here to keep the critics at arm’s length. The fact Rennes haven’t won at Monaco since 2018/19 (D1, L5) throws a spanner in the works though, so away fans are unlikely to travel to the principality expecting a win. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Monaco centre-back Thilo Kehrer delivered his fourth match opener of the season against Montpellier last weekend, adding to the one he scored in Monaco’s 2-1 win at Rennes in October. Adrien Truffert netted just the second away goal of his career earlier this month and even has a winner against Monaco – in 2020/21 – to his name. [/p]
[p]Hot streak: Rennes’ last six losses in all competitions have been by a one-goal margin, as have their last nine Ligue 1 defeats to Monaco. [/p]
