Montenegro vs Faroe Islands prediction: EUROPE: World Championship – Qualification betting tips on match 2025-03-24 19:45.
[p]The early stages of Montenegro’s opening game in their 2026 World Cup qualification (WCQ) campaign did not go as expected, falling 1-0 behind inside 15 minutes against Gibraltar before the hosts rallied to win 3-1. The Brave Falcons now have the chance to register back-to-back home WCQ victories for the first time since September 2017 when they welcome the Faroe Islands to Nikšić. [/p]
[p]Avoiding defeat here would keep Montenegro in Group L’s top two heading into the summer rounds of WCQ games, as they bid to reach their first major tournament as an independent nation. Victory would also secure the Balkan outfit a third straight competitive home win for the first time since October 2010, but they may go about achieving such a feat the hard way as Robert Prosinečki’s men haven’t kept a clean sheet in four competitive home matches since he was appointed manager in February last year. [/p]
[p]The Faroe Islands are also looking to reach their first-ever World Cup, something that looks set to be an uphill task after they began their qualifying campaign with a creditable, but still deflating, 2-1 defeat away to the Czech Republic. That result was made worse by the fact that the winner came in the 85th minute after the visitors had equalised just two minutes earlier. [/p]
[p]Defeat stretched the Faroes’ winless record on the road in WCQ action to ten matches (D2, L8), although they did score in six of those games. In that run without victory, the last five of those encounters saw the Faroes trail at half-time and go on to lose, which certainly doesn’t make for good reading ahead of a first-ever meeting with Montenegro.[/p]
[p]Players to watch: Marko Janković got an assist against Gibraltar on Saturday and was also booked – he has either been involved in a goal or been yellow-carded in four of his last six appearances at club level. Gunnar Vatnhamar scored his first international goal for more than four years against the Czech Republic, but the defender hasn’t been on the winning side in any of the three games in which he has scored for the Faroe Islands (D1, L2). [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Montenegro’s last five matches have seen their opponents pick up just one first-half yellow card between them. [/p]
