Mainz vs Wolfsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2025-04-18 13:30.
[p]Falling out of form at the worst possible time, top-four hopefuls Mainz enter the final five-game stretch on the back of their longest wait for a win in Bundesliga action this season (D2, L2). Last finishing in the top six in 2015/16, Mainz boss Bo Henriksen will be acutely aware that with just four points separating fifth and tenth, every match from here on in is essentially a must win affair.[/p]
[p]Having three home games across the final five may work in the 05ers’ favour, as they enter this with the league’s longest ongoing unbeaten home streak intact (W6, D4). That run comes under threat against Wolfsburg, a side they’ve failed to beat in 15 of the last 18 league H2Hs (W3, D7, L8), while they even took the lead on three separate occasions in the reverse fixture and still lost 4-3! [/p]
[p]Maintaining that H2H dominance will be key for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s beleaguered Wolfsburg, whose four straight defeats have all but consigned them to a mid-table finish. That losing run is part of a wider slump of just two wins from 13 league games (D5, L6), which they’ll undoubtedly look back on at the end of the season as a spell which struck down their European hopes.[/p]
[p]Losing their last two away league games without scoring, Wolfsburg are now at risk of losing three consecutive Bundesliga road games without reply for the first time since a four-game run in 2021/2022 which included a 3-0 defeat here. Scoring first may be key to ending that run, as not only have six of Wolfsburg’s seven away league wins this term seen them net the opener, but only one of the last six Mainz-held H2Hs saw both teams score. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Jonathan Burkardt leads the way for Mainz with 15 league goals, with nine of the last ten of those arriving before the hour mark. Wolfsburg have had a club record 17 different players score in the league this season, although Jonas Wind may hope to star for the visitors on his 100th Bundesliga appearance having scored a career-high six top-flight goals against Mainz. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Only Leverkusen (20) have scored more first-half Bundesliga away goals than Wolfsburg (15) this season.[/p]
