Leicester vs Southampton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-05-02 14:00.
[p]When the Premier League fixture calendar was revealed last June, a May meeting between Leicester and Southampton had all the hallmarks of a relegation âsix pointerâ. But almost a year on from fixture release day, itâs a game that now has little meaning as both sides have already been relegated, with Leicester having half as many points as West Ham in 17th![/p]
[p]With boss Ruud van Nistelrooy set to be sacked at the end of the season, all thatâs left for Leicester to do this term is salvage a crumb of pride. Thatâs certainly been in short supply at home, where Leicester have lost their last nine Premier League games without scoring, conceding 22 goals in the process. That sorry run means they could now become only the second team in English league history (top four tiers) to fail to score in ten consecutive home games. [/p]
[p]They couldnât have hand-picked a better opponent to end that run against than a Southampton side who have conceded a league-high 80 Premier League goals this term. The Saintsâ season has been so bad that theyâre actually seven points worse off than Leicester and sitting rock-bottom of the table, while they still need a point from their remaining four games to avoid equalling Derbyâs lowest-ever points return in a Premier League campaign. [/p]
[p]Recent form would indicate they should surpass the Ramsâ 11-point haul before the seasonâs out, largely because theyâre averaging more points per game under caretaker boss Simon Rusk (0.5) than they did under either Russell Martin (0.31) or Ivan JuriÄ this term (0.29). Even despite that ârevivalâ, Southampton are still winless in their last ten league outings (D2, L8), although the fact their last victory came away to another promoted side (2-1 v Ipswich) might inspire some belief here. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Bobby De Cordova-Reid was the last Leicester player to score a home league goal way back in December – eight of his last ten Premier League goals arrived after the break. Southamptonâs Cameron Archer has either opened or closed the scoring in his last seven club scoring appearances, but the last three of those ended in defeat, including the reverse fixture. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Southampton have faced more shots (605) and shots on target (234) than any other side in the Premier League this season.[/p]
