Charlton Leyton Orient prediction 2025-05-25

Charlton vs Leyton Orient prediction: ENGLAND: League One – Play Offs betting tips on match 2025-05-24 12:01.
[p]The Championship awaits either Charlton or Leyton Orient, who contest this League One play-off final after coming through their respective semi-final ties. Charlton had to overcome Wycombe to reach Wembley, with an 81st-minute winner in the second leg bringing boss Nathan Jones to his knees on the touchline as his emotion poured out, perhaps because he’s the man who can finally end the Addicks’ five-season exile from the Championship. [/p]

[p]Charlton were once an established Premier League club, and many would argue they’re too big to be playing in League One, and having lost just one of their last ten games (W7, D2), they have momentum on their side as they bid to reach the second tier. They have a psychological edge ahead of this London derby at Wembley too, as Charlton won both league H2Hs in the regular season by a one-goal margin. [/p]

[p]That won’t be too disheartening for Orient, who have already had to overcome a Stockport side who finished higher than Charlton to reach the final. A thrilling two-legged tie was decided by penalties, and after finishing the regular league season with six successive victories in League One, Orient also have plenty of momentum on their side as they seek to play Championship football for the first time ever. [/p]

[p]According to Opta’s supercomputer, Orient had a 12% chance of finishing in the top six pre-season, so their story is certainly one of a plucky underdog. Only two seasons ago the O’s were playing in League Two, but whether their underdog story has the fairytale ending Orient fans are hoping for remains to be seen, as boss Richie Wellens has lost six of his eight managerial H2Hs against Charlton (W2). [/p]

[p]Players to watch: Matty Godden scored the goal that took Charlton to Wembley and his last nine scoring appearances all ended in victory. He was on the losing side at Wembley with Coventry in the 2023 Championship play-off final though. With 23 League One goals this season (inc play-offs), Charlie Kelman is Orient’s go-to man, but they may have to be patient with him as five of his last six goals have come after half-time. His three career goals against Charlton also arrived after the break. [/p]

[p]Hot stat: Five of the last six League One play-off finals saw the winning team score exactly twice in 90 minutes. [/p]
