Colombia vs Peru prediction: SOUTH AMERICA: World Championship – Qualification betting tips on match 2025-06-05 20:30.
[p]Just four games remain for Colombia to solidify their place in the top six of CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying (WCQ) and secure their first finals appearance since 2018. With a five-point gap to seventh, Colombia at least have some leeway in their quest, albeit they remain at risk of dropping out unless they can fix their faltering four-game winless run in WCQ action (D1, L3). [/p]
[p]That run represents one of the worst current runs of form of any side in South American qualifying, although a response should be expected given that they have never before lost four games in any five-game period in WCQ matches. Playing at home should provide a boost for Néstor Lorenzo’s men, who have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight WCQ matches on Colombian soil (W5, D2, L1), all while keeping just a single clean sheet across the last six in that sequence. [/p]
[p]Much like their hosts, Peru haven’t qualified for the World Cup since 2018, although that was their only finals appearance since 1982. Visiting manager Oscar Ibáñez has been tasked with bucking that trend, and despite posting a decent enough start since February (W1, L1), he still faces a ten-point gap to the final automatic qualification spot with just 12 left to play for.[/p]
[p]Defeat would end Peru’s automatic qualification hopes, and that’s a distinct possibility given their woeful WCQ form spanning back to September 2023 (W2, D4, L8), while they’ve also failed to even score in their last eight WCQ away games (D1, L7). Despite the negatives, Peru have at least avoided defeat in three of the last four H2Hs (W2, D1). [/p]
[p]Players to watch: With Luis Diáz suspended, Colombia’s scoring onus may fall to Jhon Durán, who has found the net in two of his last three home internationals. Veteran striker Gianluca Lapadula could feature for Peru here and while he lost in his last two scoring club appearances, he was on the winning side in his last six scoring internationals. [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Just one of Peru’s last 13 WCQ away games saw both teams score.[/p]
