Boca Juniors vs Benfica prediction: WORLD: FIFA Club World Cup betting tips on match 2025-06-16 22:00.
[p]One of the most famous football outfits in South America, Boca Juniors, are taking part in just their second FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) after losing to AC Milan in the 2007 final and will be hoping to fare better against more European opposition this time around as they face Benfica in this Group C opener. [/p]
[p]Match News and Current Form[/p]
[p]Boca Juniors qualified for this year’s CWC as the second-best ranked eligible team in the CONMEBOL four-year ranking, with their standing aided by their run to the 2023 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores final, where they were beaten 2-1 by Brazilian side Fluminense. The Argentine outfit make the trip to the US having just finished second in their 2025 Torneo Apertura group, before then being knocked out at the quarter-final stage in the ensuing knockout phase, and with just one win from their last four games inside 90 minutes, they don’t arrive in the best of form. [/p]
[p]It may come as a surprise to some, but Benfica will be making their first-ever CWC appearance after also qualifying for the competition via the ranking pathway, thanks largely to their strong performances in the UEFA Champions League over the past four seasons. The latest campaign was a tough one for the Portuguese giants though, as they agonisingly finished two points behind top-flight title winners Sporting CP. Like Boca, they come into the CWC in poor form, winning none of their last three games (D2, L1).[/p]
[p]Head-to-Head History[/p]
[p]These teams have never previously met in competitive action.[/p]
[p]There were four meetings between teams from Argentina and Europe under the previous CWC format – all ended in victories for the European side.[/p]
[p]Hot Stats and Streaks[/p]
[p]Only three of Boca’s last 11 games saw both teams score.[/p]
[p]Only three goals have been scored after half-time across Boca’s last five games.[/p]
[p]Benfica have not won any of their last eight games at neutral venues in major European/international competition (D2, L6).[/p]
[p]Benfica’s last 11 matches averaged 3.89 goals per game. [/p]
[p]Key Players to Watch and Missing Players[/p]
[p]Boca could be heavily reliant on Miguel Merentiel, especially as he has either scored or assisted each of their last four goals (G2, A2). Vangelis Pavlidis netted 29 times in 53 appearances in 2024/25 for Benfica – five of his last seven scoring appearances saw him net the second goal of the game.[/p]
[p]Benfica head into this summer’s tournament a little light on defensive talent as Tomás Araújo and Alexander Bah look set to miss at least some of the CWC through injury, but Boca arrive in the States with a near full-strength squad. [/p]
[p]Betting Analysis[/p]
[p]Considering that Benfica have scored at least once in each of their last 15 games, a bet on them to find the net in this match is the natural choice.[/p]
