Newcastle Chelsea prediction 2025-12-20

Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-12-19 12:30.
[p]Fresh from booking their spots in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in midweek, Newcastle and Chelsea quickly switch their focus back to the Premier League. [/p]

[p]Match News and Current Form[/p]

[p]Newcastle reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals for the third time in the last four seasons by beating Fulham 2-1 in midweek. That served as the response from the disappointment of last weekend’s Wear-Tyne derby defeat against Sunderland, which saw the Magpies lose valuable ground in the European race. Eddie Howe’s men sit four points shy of the top six, and a swift return home could be timely as they look to close that gap given that Newcastle have won eight of their last nine games at St James’ Park (D1). Having scored exactly twice in the last seven of those outings, their nine-game league run without a clean sheet won’t necessarily be too detrimental to their chances here.  [/p]

[p]Chelsea had the luxury of being able to rest some of their key players in midweek as they overcame third-tier Cardiff in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Enzo Maresca still needed the inspiration of a couple of his big hitters left on the bench to get them over the line, but he’ll view that as immaterial as his side have now bounced back from a four-game winless run (D2, L2) with back-to-back wins. Last weekend’s 2-0 victory against Everton ensured they retained their top-four spot, and although two away league games without a win (D1, L1) would suggest that spot will come under threat this weekend, four clean sheets from their last five such games at least give them a solid platform to build upon.[/p]

[p]Head-to-Head History[/p]

[p]Newcastle won the last H2H they hosted 2-0 back in May, part of a four-match winning streak in home H2Hs – their longest such run in over 40 years.[/p]

[p]Hot Stats and Streaks[/p]

[p]Newcastle have conceded nine of their ten home league goals this season after half-time.[/p]

[p]Eight of Newcastle’s last nine games saw both teams score. [/p]

[p]Only Liverpool (11) have scored more second-half away league goals than Chelsea (10) this season.[/p]

[p]Chelsea have won eight successive Premier League games in the Saturday 12:30 kick-off slot.[/p]

[p]Key Players to Watch and Missing Players[/p]

[p]Bruno Guimarães has seen six of his last seven Newcastle goals arrive after half-time, one of which came in the most recent H2H. Cole Palmer was one of the Chelsea players rested in midweek, so should be fresh to strike early here given that eight of his last ten Blues strikes, including against Everton last weekend, arrived in the opening 30 minutes. [/p]

[p]Newcastle losing Tino Livramento to injury in midweek added to a growing list of defensive casualties. Chelsea’s Estêvão missed the Cardiff match and will be absent here too.[/p]
