Aston Villa vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-10-28 14:00.
A dominant 4-1 win over AZ Alkmaar in midweek extended Aston Villa’s unbeaten run to five competitive games (W4, D1) and saw them climb atop their European group. The Thursday night jaunt to the Netherlands could take its toll from a physical standpoint for this contest, but it’s worth noting they have followed both of their continental away games this season with Premier League (PL) victories.
That trend looks set to continue if Villa’s home league form is anything to go by as they’ve managed to score at least three goals against each of their four visitors this season. The Villans are now just one of a handful of PL sides that can still boast a perfect home-winning record this season, and that is part of the club’s longest-winning home league run since 1983 (W11).
That makes for some pretty bleak reading for Luton Town, who have won just once in league action all season (W1, D2, L6) and entered this round just a point above the dreaded dotted line. Granted, the Hatters showed brilliant character to snatch a point from a 2-0 deficit in the final ten minutes in their latest PL game at Nottingham Forest, but boss Rob Edwards claimed he knows his side “can do better.”
That statement is particularly pertinent when considering Luton are the only PL side yet to keep a clean sheet in all competitions this season. Failing to do so in their first nine games of their maiden PL season makes them the first side to post such a dreary stat since Bolton’s run of ten in 1995/96. They have at least scored twice in their last two PL away games (W1, D1), so the Hatters will believe they have a puncher’s chance of claiming a result.
Key battle: Villa’s Ollie Watkins is in the form of his life, scoring in three consecutive appearances for club & country, while four of his last five club-scoring appearances also featured over 4.5 match goals. Trying to stop him will be Luton defender Tom Lockyer, a man not afraid to get himself forward as shown by his pair of goal contributions across his last two away appearances (G1, A1).
Hot stat: Aston Villa (W5) and Luton (W1) make up two of the three PL sides yet to drop a point when scoring first this season.
