Atalanta Genoa prediction 2023-10-22

Atalanta vs Genoa prediction: ITALY: Serie A betting tips on match 2023-10-21 16:00.
Atalanta conceded a late goal beyond the 80th minute to lose 3-2 to Lazio before the international break, falling four points behind the top-four in Serie A (SA) as a result. That defeat ended a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W4, D1) and the break should have given Gian Piero Gasperini’s side enough time to plot their way back into form, as they look to avoid losing consecutive matches for the first time this campaign.

La Dea should be able to bank on their impressive backline that has stood out this season with clean sheets in each of their four home competitive games (W3, D1). They can now make it a fourth consecutive shutout in home top-flight matches for the first time since March 2017, and three clean sheets across the last four SA H2Hs would boost hopes of doing just that.

Genoa were also hit by a late goal in their last game before the international break, losing 1-0 to leaders AC Milan. It has been an interesting season so far for the Rossoblù, who started this round equidistant from seventh and 18th by points, although the spectre of an immediate return to Serie B could have been part of their discussions during the break.

The visitors will take heart from the fact that they haven’t yet lost consecutive league games this league campaign, winning two of the three SA matches that immediately followed a defeat (W2, D1). That record could be put to the test at the Gewiss Stadium as Genoa have failed to win an away SA H2H since January 2016 (D3, L3 hence), although the three draws have come consecutively and prior to this trip.

Players to watch: Mario Pašalić scored for Croatia in his most recent appearance and another goal here could be good news for Atalanta, as they won five of the last seven league matches in which he scored (D1, L1). Meanwhile, Albert Guðmundsson has seen his last three league goals come before half-time, each time giving Genoa a lead.

Hot stat: Five of the last seven SA H2Hs remained goalless at half-time, which was also the case in three of Genoa’s last six league games.
