Ath Bilbao vs Getafe prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2023-09-26 17:00.
Things have been going rather swimmingly for Athletic Bilbao of late after they made it nine unanswered goals and three consecutive clean sheets with a 2-0 win over Alavés in the last round. That means that Athletic boast an identical record to what they had at the same stage of last season (W4, D1, L1), yet that is by no means the norm as it is their equal best haul at this stage in the 21st century!

Another shutout would cement a run of four straight La Liga (LL) clean sheets for the first time since 2015. Yet they could just as easily regress defensively after conceding twice in two of their three home games this season, and while continuing that fine run with another win is the expectation, it certainly is not a guarantee when considering their rather uninspiring home H2H form across the last six visits from Getafe (W1, D4, L1).

The Azulones fell six points adrift of their hosts this past weekend as they found themselves on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller in a 4-3 defeat at Real Sociedad. That continued a sequence of five games alternating between wins and defeats, a trend they’d like to see continue here as they look to build on their lowly finish of last season which saw them end just two points above the drop zone.

Poor away form was a big contributor to that and there’s been little in the way of improvement so far this season with Getafe conceding an average of three goals per match across three road trips that all ended in defeat. If they’re to buck that trend here, then their aerial threat could be key given no fewer than five of their eight league goals scored have been via headers (63%) – that’s a higher portion than all but Union Berlin across Europe’s top-five leagues.

Players to watch: The seemingly ever-present Iñaki Williams has already scored in three wins to nil for Athletic this season, the goals which have contributed to three of his last four strikes providing the match opener. Aside from Getafe’s five headed league goals, Borja Mayoral scored each of the three that were scored with feet, including two penalties!

Hot stat: Athletic Bilbao are the only LL side yet to concede a second-half league goal.
