Atl. Madrid Real Madrid prediction 2022-09-18

Atl. Madrid vs Real Madrid prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2022-09-17 19:00.
Spain’s capital city will again come to a standstill as its two biggest clubs Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid clash in the first meeting between these teams this season. Both Madrid giants saw the same 2-0 scoreline against Bundesliga opponents in midweek Champions League action, however unlike Real, Atlético were on the wrong side of the result as they were downed in Leverkusen. That was the first time in five competitive matches that Diego Simeone’s men had lost (W3, D1) or conceded more than once, something they’ve also done just twice across their last 12 home H2Hs.

They’ll therefore aim to bounce back here and close an already sizable five-point gap between them and Real, but that may be easier said than done, as despite those strong H2H defensive showings, Atlético have actually failed to win six of their last seven home La Liga (LL) games against their rivals, albeit that one win did come in May. As a result, they can win consecutive LL games against Real for the first time since February 2015.

Real’s midweek victory over Leipzig extended their perfect start to the season (W8) and they’re now chasing six wins from their opening six LL matches for the first time since 1987/88. Yet whilst this game looks tough on paper, Real might believe their rivals are the ideal opponent to achieve that feat as Los Blancos boast more wins against Atlético than any other side in LL history (90)!

They’ve also won more away games against Atlético than any other team too (35), yet despite this, there’s unwanted history on the line as a defeat here would see Real suffer consecutive away defeats against their rivals for the first time in 45 years! They’ve conceded more than a single goal only once across their last nine competitive visits across town though, which bodes well for a positive result considering they’ve scored 2+ goals in all four of their away matches this season.

Players to watch: Antoine Griezmann, who has only been coming on after the 60th minute in matches in order to avoid triggering a £35m clause in his loan deal from Barcelona, has unsurprisingly seen all three of his goals this season serve as Atlético’s last of the game. In-form 22-year-old Vinícius Júnior could become the youngest Real player since Raúl González Blanco in April 1999 to score in five straight LL games.

Hot stat: Only against two other coaches has Real’s Carlo Ancelotti suffered more league defeats than he has against Simeone (W1, D1, L4).
