Auxerre Strasbourg prediction 2022-08-27

Auxerre vs Strasbourg prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2022-08-26 15:00.
Newcomers Auxerre should enter this game full of confidence after claiming the club’s first win in Ligue 1 for over ten years, a 2-1 victory at Montpellier last weekend. After seeing two of his players sent off in that win, coach Jean-Marc Furlan didn't hide his concern for this game against Strasbourg though, even going so far as to crudely state he was “sh…ing himself” in the post-Montpellier presser!

He could have a point as the absence of Auxerre’s offensive summer signings, M'Baye Niang and Nuno Da Costa, may weaken an attack that has scored just twice in four league H2Hs (D1, L3). The AJA will therefore need all the support they can get from the Stade Abbé Deschamps, if they are to extend their current seven-game unbeaten run at home (W4, D3, 90 minutes).

Only two points after three Ligue 1 rounds (D2, L1) perhaps wasn’t the start Strasbourg had dreamt of, but fans are used to seeing their side start slowly, as they registered their first win at the fourth attempt in the last two seasons and will now have the chance to do so again. Naturally frustrated after a 1-1 home draw against Reims last time out, coach Julien Stéphan lamented that his side had “a lot of technical waste”.

An away game is unlikely to provide any let-up for the Racing either, who have won just one of their last eight Ligue 1 games on the road (D5, L2). They are odds-on favourites here though, so may be primed to stretch their current three-game unbeaten run at newly-promoted sides (W2, D1) in the league, a run which saw them keep two clean sheets.

Key battle: Auxerre will hope Mathias Autret can find the net given he’s lost none of the last 37 league matches that he’s scored in (W23, D14), including last weekend. However, Strasbourg’s Kévin Gameiro loves an early goal, netting the game’s opener in four of his last six goalscoring Ligue 1 games.

Hot stat: Strasbourg lost just one of the eight away league games they started as pre-match favorites in 2021/22 (W3, D4).
