B. Monchengladbach vs FC Koln prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2022-10-08 13:30.
After a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Werder Bremen in their last outing, Borussia Mönchengladbach have the chance to bounce back instantly in the Rhine Derby against Cologne. It’s a far from ideal game to get back to winning ways though as they’ve lost the last three H2Hs, and could now lose four Rhine derbies on the bounce for the first time since 1983!

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus insists “It's only about three points” on Sunday, and with five wins from their last six home league outings (L1), manager Daniel Farke may feel confident of delivering a result to please both the Gladbach fans and hierarchy. A reasonably solid defence has been largely behind Gladbach’s home success as they’ve conceded no more than once across those last six home games, though the previous team to score at least twice at Borussia-Park was none other than Cologne!

Seven changes in Cologne’s midweek UEFA Europa Conference League defeat against Partizan Belgrade (1-0) can perhaps shoulder some of the blame as to why Cologne failed to transfer their solid league form (W3, D4, L1) onto the European stage. However boss Steffen Baumgart will hope that his decision to shuffle the pack pays dividends with fresh legs on Sunday.

Baumgart perhaps opted to rotate on the basis his side haven’t won a league game following a European outing this season (D3, L1), leaving Cologne in no position to afford a slow start. However, falling behind in this game strangely wouldn’t necessarily be the worst thing to happen to Cologne, with their nine Bundesliga points claimed after conceding first this season both a league-high and a club record after eight games!

Key battle: Gladbach’s Yann Sommer may have another busy afternoon to look forward to, with his 48 Bundelsiga saves ahead of the round the second highest in the league. Trying to pick the Sommer lock will be Cologne’s Florian Kainz, who has had a hand in half of Cologne's 14 Bundesliga goals (G3, A4).

Hot stat: Gladbach and Cologne have scored just two combined goals between them in the opening half-hour of Bundesliga games this season.
