Blackburn vs Birmingham prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-11-28 19:45.
Blackburn Rovers return to Ewood Park on Wednesday evening after a successful trip to Stoke on Saturday saw Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side win 3-0. The manager described it as “brilliant performance,” and having seen his side get the result to match, he’ll be looking for more of the same against Birmingham City as his side attempt to stop a run of back-to-back home defeats.
But that could be easier said than done, as ahead of this round of games, only three teams in the Championship have picked up fewer league points at home this season than Blackburn’s nine. Rovers have been beaten five times at Ewood Park already in this campaign and given they have failed to score more than one goal in each of their last five home league matches (W1, L4), it’s clear to see where their biggest problem lies.
Birmingham City have been similarly goal-shy on their travels of late with just three goals from their last six away games (L6) and they arrive in Lancashire after losing both of their last two away fixtures 3-1. Across those six defeats they have conceded 13 times, and they have a tendency to fade as the game goes on considering ten of them came in the second-half of matches.
However, all is not lost as the Blues picked up their first three points under Wayne Rooney at the sixth attempt on Saturday, as they came from a goal down to defeat bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. The pressure will still be on the former England skipper though, as Birmingham travel up the M6 to a ground where they have won only once (D11, L17) since a victory in January 1968!
Players to watch: Ahead of this round of fixtures, Blackburn’s attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics is the leading goalscorer in the division. He netted in the 90th minute at the weekend to make it four goals from his last three appearances and 11 in total for the season. Kōji Miyoshi found the net in Birmingham’s last away game and he has scored twice on the road this season, both times opening the scoring for his side.
Hot stat: Blackburn Rovers have not scored three or more goals in any of their last 24 home league fixtures, a run which stretches back to October 2022.
