Blackburn vs Millwall prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-09-30 14:00.
Jon Dahl Tomasson is challenging his Blackburn side “to find consistency” as a run of five defeats in seven league matches (W2) threatens to derail their promotion push. A 2-0 loss at Luton before the international break means the Lancashire club have dropped outside the Championship play-offs for the first time this season, leaving Tomasson after the game to highlight their inconsistency while stressing that the first goal of the game was always likely to be critical.
Rovers will be hoping a return to Ewood Park can kick-start that challenge for the top six, given they have won four of their half a dozen outings (L2) on home soil since Tomasson took charge this summer. They will also be buoyed by the visit of Millwall, who Blackburn have not lost to in their last six home meetings (W4, D2), while suffering just one defeat in the last 13 H2H clashes between the pair at any venue (W7, D5).
That statistic will only further temper the expectations of Lions fans considering their side are on a run of 11 away games without a victory (L6, D5), failing to even score in five of the last six and mustering just 13 shots on target in the process. Indeed, Millwall’s only two strikes on the road this season were own goals, during a 2-2 draw with Swansea last month!
Gary Rowett’s side did get a confidence boosting 2-1 victory over Blackpool last time out though, with club record signing Zian Flemming netting his first goal since a summer switch from Fortuna Sittard. That gives them some breathing space from the relegation zone, but Rowett admits he “can understand the frustration” from supporters as they look to improve on last season’s ninth-place finish.
Key battle: Blackburn defender Daniel Ayala has only kept two clean sheets in eight clashes with Millwall, although he’s been on the losing side just once in that time (W4, D3). He may have his work cut out against Lions striker Benik Afobe who’s scored two in his last three games, while losing only twice in seven appearances against Blackburn (W2, D3).
Hot stat: The team that’s scored the first goal has gone on to win each of Blackburn’s ten league matches this season.
