Blackpool vs Coventry prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-03-17 15:00.
Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy called his side’s 6-1 demolition of QPR on Tuesday “the kind of result that doesn't happen very often”, which is perhaps a fair assessment given it was only their second win across 20 league games (D7, L11). While they still remain locked in a relegation battle, there’s renewed belief that the Seasiders can beat the drop as they go in search of a second league H2H double this century against Coventry after winning the reverse fixture 2-1 in October.

Another home game offers renewed hope that Blackpool can go into the international break on a high as they are unbeaten in all competitions in 2023 at Bloomfield Road (W3, D4). McCarthy will hope his side continue that run as he looks to extend a five-game winning sequence in managerial home league H2Hs against Coventry.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins asked his side to “want the game more” before their 1-1 draw against relegation contenders Wigan on Tuesday, but in the end Coventry missed out on the chance to move closer to the top-six spots. While they still boast an unbeaten eight-game record (W4, D4) and are by no means out of the play-off race, their over-reliance on Viktor Gyökeres remains a concern, with the Swedish striker scoring 42% of the team’s league goals, including five of their last nine.

That presents a clear case for others to step up as Coventry look to address a sub-standard recent eight-game record away from home (W2, D2, L4). There has been signs of an improvement of late, with Coventry landing three clean sheets across their last four away league games, contributing to the visitors’ overall record as one of the best defensive sides in the Championship (GA36).

Key battle: Blackpool’s Chris Maxwell will be gunning for a clean sheet, something which eluded him in six previous H2Hs. He may have to keep Matt Godden quiet for that, as he netted Coventry’s opener in his last home league H2H, which was also the case with his last Championship goal.

Hot stat: Coventry have conceded six of their 19 away league goals within the first 15 minutes of action.
