Bochum vs Augsburg prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-02-02 14:30.
This is an important Bundesliga clash with Bochum and Augsburg meeting near the bottom of the table and separated by just one point. The home side, who started this round in 14th place, should be increasingly confident that they will have enough points to extend their Bundesliga stay into a fourth successive season given their improved form of late, in which all four of their league wins this season arrived in their last ten matches.
They did suffer a 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in their last outing, but that was only their third defeat from that aforementioned ten-game run, helping them forge an eight-point gap to the relegation zone coming into the round. Bochum’s unbeaten record across their last three H2Hs (W2, D1) also makes them marginal favourites to extend that gap further here.
Whilst the visitors are coming into the game one place above their hosts, four defeats from their past six matches (W1, D1) highlights how their form has been on a downward trajectory. Whilst head coach Jess Thorup lamented that “luck wasn’t on our side today” following a close 3-2 loss at home to Bayern Munich, it highlights how they’ve been their own worst enemy in that run. They conceded the first goal in five of those six matches and consequently now rank first for allowing the most opening goals (14/19) in the division.
Their susceptibility to concede first has played a role in the Fuggerstädter’s last 15 away league games producing at least one first-half goal, but just two wins (D4, L9) in that time highlights why Thorup might be hoping for a much tighter affair here. Augsburg should at least come into this contest with enhanced travelling confidence after a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach in their last road trip.
Players to watch: Midfielder Kevin Stöger set up Bochum’s second goal in the reverse H2H (D 2-2) and also registered an assist in his most recent home appearance. Augsburg forward Ermedin Demirović, who also scored in the last H2H, grabbed his second league brace of the season in the defeat to Bayern, taking his Bundesliga tally to ten.
Hot stat: Remarkably, Augsburg scored exactly two goals in six of the previous eight competitive H2Hs.
