Brest Lille prediction 2023-01-11

Brest vs Lille prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-01-10 18:00.
Eric Roy hailed the dawn of a new era at Brest after beating Avranches 2-0 in the Coupe de France on Saturday. The new boss said their success in his first game in charge was “the opportunity for us to start a new run,” but his attention must now quickly turn to picking up just a fourth victory of the Ligue 1 season, a wretched start which leaves Brest currently occupying one of the four relegation spots.

The Pirates' perilous position certainly isn’t helped by losing their last two league matches since their return from an extended break, though that is perhaps a little bit of a false representation given both defeats came against European chasing sides. Lille, another of those sides with top-five aspirations are next up, but having picked up just one win from eight home attempts in the league this season (D3, L4), a change in fortunes against the league’s top-half sides appears slim.

Brest’s paltry tally of seven home league goals this season certainly doesn’t bode well for the visit of Lille, given only Ligue 1’s top three teams have conceded fewer than their total of eight away league goals. Though they have looked solid on the road this season, Lille’s travelling fragilities have long since been shown against Brest, a side they have beaten just twice in the last 13 away H2H clashes (D5, L6).

Paulo Fonseca’s side are in good form though as they seek to improve upon that record, with their 2-0 Coupe de France win over Troyes on Sunday making it five games unbeaten either side of the World Cup (W3, D2). That hasn’t appeased all the supporters though, some of whom booed Lille off after their 1-1 draw against Reims in their last league game, leading the manager to play the dangerous game of insisting he was “very disappointed” with the fans.

Players to watch: Steve Mounié netted a late penalty as Brest won this fixture 2-0 last season, and he is now unbeaten in his last four appearances against Lille (W2, D2). He will likely be trying to outscore Jonathan David, who has lost on his two previous visits to Stade Francis-Le Blé, but has a staggering record of 52 wins from his 62 career goalscoring club appearances (D7, L3).

Hot stat: Brest’s 11 first-half home goals conceded is more than any other Ligue 1 side.
