Bristol City vs Leeds prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-02-01 20:00.
Bristol City are now winless in five Championship games (D3, L2) after failing to hold onto a late lead at Coventry in midweek, leaving the Robins with a point rather than all three. The equaliser they conceded was the eighth goal they’ve leaked in the final ten minutes of matches in the league so far this season, and yet again left boss Liam Manning rueing their lack of a finishing touch, insisting “you get what you deserve” post-match.
Still meandering in mid-table, six points off the pace of the play-offs, Bristol City are in desperate need of three points if they’re to mount a play-off push, and can take hope ahead of Leeds’ visit from the fact they’re unbeaten in their last five Friday-held league games (W3, D2). With three of those coming this season (W1, D2), the Robins have not lost on a Friday since August 2021!
Despite that good omen, Leeds have won 14 of their last 17 league matches against Bristol City (D2, L1), including recording victory in each of their three most recent visits to Ashton Gate. Eight of those 14 games saw Leeds triumph by a one-goal margin, and with the Lilywhites already winning nine Championship games by a single goal this season, this could be set to be another tight affair.
Daniel Farke’s men still sit fourth, but have enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence in the New Year, and are now only two points off the automatic promotion spots having won their first four league games of 2024. That’s the first time since 1950 that they’ve won their first four league games in a calendar year, with Leeds last winning five in a row in the league in July 2020 en-route to promotion.
Players to watch: Veteran striker Nahki Wells netted his third league goal of the season for the Robins in midweek, and has three career goals against Leeds, including a match-winner for QPR in 2020. Leeds’ Patrick Bamford has scored in each of his last two visits to Ashton Gate, and has four in six appearances in 2024 so far (all competitions).
Hot stat: Leeds have kept five clean sheets away from home in the league to date this season, the third highest tally in the Championship.
