Burnley Luton prediction 2022-08-06

Burnley vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2022-08-05 14:00.
As far as starts to a managerial reign go, Vincent Kompany’s maiden game in charge of Burnley couldn’t have gone much better – a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield, 69% possession and keeper Arijanet Muric didn’t make a save all night. The big challenges come thick and fast though, and having already dispatched one of last season’s play-off contenders, another is next up for Burnley in the form of Luton.

In what will be the first H2H meeting between these sides since 2007, Burnley will hope to extend a five-match unbeaten run of Championship home openers (W2, D3). Doing so would also prolong Burnley’s impressive run of 24 second-tier games unbeaten, and victory could see them hit the summit, but considering 2006/07 was the last time the Clarets won their opening two Championship games, that is by no means assured.

A 0-0 home draw against Birmingham on opening day perhaps wasn’t the start Luton had dreamed of, but manager Nathan Jones insisted he couldn’t have asked for much more from his squad. As the fifth-best performing side on the road last season (W9, D5, L9), Luton certainly don’t appear travel sick, but having lost all three away games last season against the newly-relegated sides, they will be all too aware of the threat Burnley pose.

Luton will know the key to victory undoubtedly lies in scoring the first goal, considering all nine of their away league wins last season came after scoring first. With Jones blasting Birmingham’s time wasting antics last weekend in that goalless draw and insisting he no longer knows the rules of the game, Luton may be tempted to try a similar approach should they score first. However, as just one of four Championship sides not to collect a yellow card on opening weekend, fair play could remain the name of the game for last year’s surprise play-off package.

Players to watch: Teenage forward Dara Costelloe could again get the nod for Burnley and three of his last four PL2 goals made the score 1-1. Meanwhile, Luton could look to Harry Cornick for inspiration, with his last three goals proving decisive in wins.

Hot stat: Eight of Burnley’s last nine Championship home wins came ‘to nil’.
