Burnley Wigan prediction 2023-03-11

Burnley vs Wigan prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-03-10 15:00.
As Burnley boss Vincent Kompany reflected on what was a “tremendous period” in the Clarets’ season after they impressively negotiated a hectic schedule to start the year, Burnley will have had a week to prepare for the visit of Wigan since their 0-0 draw at Blackpool. That draw ended a run of nine games (W6, D3) in four weeks for the Clarets, meaning this week’s rest is likely a godsend for Burnley, whose squad is starting to look a little thin in areas after a number of injuries.

Those injuries have arguably come at a good time for Burnley, with this their third successive league contest against a side in the bottom three (W1, D1). And whilst any remaining absentees might ensure this game isn’t a walkover, the hosts’ current record of 15 unbeaten Championship games (W12, D3) and a thumping 5-1 reverse fixture triumph means it’s hard to see anything other than Burnley completing a first-ever league double over the Latics here.

Six points from safety ahead of the round, it’s looking likelier week-on-week that Wigan will be making a swift return to League One. Things had been looking up under new boss Shaun Maloney, but two defeats from their last three league games (D1) has seen the Latics cut adrift at the bottom and now facing arguably the toughest test the Championship has to offer – a trip to the table-toppers.

A 1-0 defeat to play-off chasing West Brom in midweek was no disgrace, but it did extend Wigan’s winless away league run to 12 matches (D5, L7). In fact, Wigan’s last Championship victory on their travels came way back in October against Rotherham (2-0) when Leam Richardson was still at the helm. Two permanent managers later, Maloney’s men are still looking for just their third league win since Richardson departed in November (W2, D6, L7 since) so they’ll need to tip the scales to grab three points here.

Players to watch: Despite playing at right-back, Burnley’s Connor Roberts has scored in his last two Turf Moor appearances. Wigan won’t mind where their goals come from, but they’ve been looking to Ashley Fletcher lately as he’s the only Latics player to score across their last five games.

Hot stat: Wigan’s 15 Championship goals conceded after the 75th minute this season is a league high.
