As Burnley boss Vincent Kompany reflected on what was a “tremendous period” in the Clarets’ season after they impressively negotiated a hectic schedule to start the year, Burnley will have had a week to prepare for the visit of Wigan since their 0-0 draw at Blackpool. That draw ended a run of nine games (W6, D3) in four weeks for the Clarets, meaning this week’s rest is likely a godsend for Burnley, whose squad is starting to look a little thin in areas after a number of injuries.
Those injuries have arguably come at a good time for Burnley, with this their third successive league contest against a side in the bottom three (W1, D1). Players to watch: Despite playing at right-back, Burnley’s Connor Roberts has scored in his last two Turf Moor appearances. Wigan won’t mind where their goals come from, but they’ve been looking to Ashley Fletcher lately as he’s the only Latics player to score across their last five games.
