Cadiz CF vs Villarreal prediction: SPAIN: LaLiga betting tips on match 2023-08-31 17:30.
There were less than ideal results and no shortage of dramatic circumstances for Cádiz and Villarreal in the third round of La Liga (LL) last weekend, with both sides now occupying mid-table positions after failing to win. The two clubs suffered losses to Barcelona in successive weeks and will welcome this opportunity to finish the round in the top half with an important victory.

Cádiz spent most of their second half with an extra man on the pitch and more than half an hour with a 1-0 lead, but an annoyed manager Sergio González was left to lament that their hard earned advantage “was ruined by thirty bad seconds” that allowed Almería to snatch a 1-1 draw and deny Cádiz what would have been a fifth straight LL home win. Now they must face up to what should theoretically be a more difficult assignment, though their 33% win rate as home underdogs last season in LL (W4, D3, L5) suggests they could be up to it.

After they snapped a six-game winless run away to Mallorca in their second LL outing (W 1-0), Villarreal came into last weekend’s game hoping not to add to their club-high 28 LL losses to Barcelona. But whilst they became just the fourth club since the start of 2021/22 to put three goals past Barcelona in a league game, they ultimately fell to a 4-3 defeat, a result that boss Quique Setién quietly suggested was “unfair” given their two-goal first half comeback.

For the Yellow Submarine, this week is yet again about attempting to snap another long-term head-to-head trend, as despite winning away to Cádiz in a Copa del Rey tie back in 2014, neither side has managed to win at the other’s stadium in the eight top-flight LL H2Hs.

Players to watch: Cádiz need Roger Martí to end his five-month goal scoring drought sooner rather than later, and with four career goals against Villarreal, there’s no better time than now. Gerard Moreno’s match winner against Mallorca two starts back was his fifth consecutive LL goal to be scored away from home.

Hot stat: All but one of Cádiz’s last nine LL wins came with clean sheets.
