Cardiff vs West Brom prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-03-14 19:45.
Championship strugglers Cardiff came out fighting off the pitch last week when they began legal action against the EFL in an attempt to lift the remaining section of the transfer embargo hanging over them. There was no repeat of that belligerence on the field though, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Preston. Beyond the loss, an additional frustration for manager Sabri Lamouchi was that his side lost their goalkeeper to a red card for the second match in a row!
Lamouchi labelled that “unbelievable” post-match on Saturday, although he and his players can’t dwell or they risk undoing the good work that had seen them win three of their previous four league matches going into the loss at Deepdale. Each of those wins were accompanied by a clean sheet, and confidence might be high another could be on the cards here given Cardiff remain one of just four Championship sides to have gone to the Hawthorns this year and come away without conceding.
Although West Brom will have been disappointed with that 0-0 draw in the reverse, it does make up an eight-game unbeaten run (W5, D3) against teams starting this round inside the bottom six. One of those fixtures came this past weekend as they saw off Huddersfield 1-0, which led to manager Carlos Corberan to admit his team is “building confidence and belief,” as the race for the top-six intensifies.
The eighth-placed Baggies ended the last gameweek three points behind Millwall in sixth, although keeping that pressure on the London club looks set to be tested here given West Brom’s underwhelming record on the road. They’re bidding to avoid losing 5+ away Championship games in a row for the first time since February 2022, with each game in this losing streak so far seeing them concede at least twice!
Players to watch: Sory Kaba has opened the scoring for Cardiff in two of their last three home league matches while fellow attacker Daryl Dike has scored three goals before the 30th minute across his last four West Brom league outings, but he is chasing a first strike on the road since January.
Hot stat: West Brom have picked up 57 yellow cards and committed 338 fouls coming into the round; both are league lows.
