Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2022-08-13 15:30.
Chelsea’s 1-0 Premier League (PL) matchday one win over Everton came despite a less-than-spectacular attacking performance but it was a case of doing enough on the day to earn all three points. Unsurprisingly, manager Thomas Tuchel still wants to bolster his squad and he should have more leeway to do so with Timo Werner and Malang Sarr among players leaving this week.
Although finding a reliable striker is a long-standing problem for the Blues, it’s not hampered them against Tottenham Hotspur as they’re unbeaten in seven PL H2Hs (W6, D1), mainly because they conceded just once during those meetings. However, it’s now three home league matches since Chelsea kept a clean sheet (W1, D2), last doing so in their previous PL London derby (W 1-0 v West Ham United).
Spurs put in a much more impressive opening day performance, coming from behind to beat Southampton 4-1, further reinforcing the view that ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte’s first full season in North London could see them improve on last season’s fourth place. “I saw a lot of positive things, but we are only in the first game,” the Italian cautioned afterwards.
As Tottenham chase a fifth consecutive PL win – something they last achieved in December 2018 – history’s not on their side as they failed to score in their last three visits to Stamford Bridge (D1, L2). Even more ominously, Spurs couldn’t win a single London derby away from home in the league last term (D1, L4), which includes January’s 2-0 defeat here.
Players to watch: Three of Mason Mount’s last four PL goals for Chelsea came inside the opening 20 minutes, while Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski has four goal contributions (G3, A1) across his last two PL appearances, two of those goals coming between the 60th and 65th minute.
Hot stat: Chelsea found the net in 18 (95%) of their home PL matches last term.
