Clermont vs Nantes prediction: FRANCE: Ligue 1 betting tips on match 2023-01-28 14:00.
After closing out the 2022 calendar year with six Ligue 1 games without a win (D3, L3), Clermont have embarked on an exceptional revival by winning all three league matches since the turn of the year. That has pushed Clermont into the top-half of the table, with their tally of 28 points at the halfway stage of the campaign being ten points better compared to this stage last season.
The Stade Gabriel Montpied faithful will be hoping the Lancers can continue this fine form, after their 2-1 win over Rennes snapped a three-game winless run at home (D1, L2). That will be easier said than done when taking on Nantes here though, with Clermont failing to win any of the three H2Hs since gaining promotion last season (D1, L2).
It’s seemingly been a season of two halves for Nantes, who after starting 2022/23 with only two wins in their opening 15 matches in all competitions (D4, L9), have suddenly suffered only one defeat in their last 13 (W7, D5). Wrapped up in that is going unbeaten in eight of their last nine Ligue 1 matches (W3, D5), which has created a comfortable wedge between them and the relegation zone.
The Canaries have been especially impressive since the return of French football after the World Cup hiatus, keeping six consecutive clean sheets in that time (W4, D2). Antoine Kombouaré’s men claimed a commanding 3-0 win over Montpellier in their last away league match, something that desperately needs building on since they failed to win any of their 13 Ligue 1 away matches prior (D6, L7).
Players to watch: Clermont’s Komnen Andrić can never be counted out on the pitch, having netted each of his last six goals after half-time. Nantes’ Mostafa Mohamed is quite the opposite, scoring his side’s opening goal in five of his last seven goalscoring outings, including the equaliser the last time these two teams met in a 1-1 draw.
Hot stat: Nantes have only seen 14 first-half goals scored in their Ligue 1 campaign this season, the competition’s lowest tally.
