Coventry Leicester prediction 2024-01-13

Coventry vs Leicester prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2024-01-12 12:30.
It’s a repeat of matchday one in the Championship, as the M69 derby pits play-off chasing Coventry against runaway leaders Leicester. The Sky Blues haven’t had much success in this fixture of late after failing to win any of the last seven derbies (D4, L3), and after spurning a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at the King Power on opening weekend, boss Mark Robins must be left scratching his head at what he has to do to end that hoodoo.

Their recent league form (W4, D3) would suggest they’re in a position to claim local bragging rights for the first time since February 2008, and after hitting Oxford for six here in the FA Cup last weekend (W 6-2), confidence should be at an all-time high. Goals certainly haven’t been in short supply of late at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with the hosts netting at least twice in four of their last five home outings.

Although Leicester’s status as runaway leaders suggests winning here should be a mere formality, only fellow Midlanders West Brom have won on Coventry soil this season. If any team in the Championship looks well placed to become the second, it’s Leicester, who are the best-performing second tier side on the road this season (W10, D2, L1), with nine of their ten wins seeing them net 2+ goals.

A short trip to Coventry perhaps poses the biggest threat yet to their goalscoring exploits though, as none of their last seven visits saw them net more than a single goal. Five draws from those seven prior trips here (W1, L1) would hint at a closely-fought contest, which perhaps places added emphasis on a Leicester back-line which has kept just one clean sheet in the last nine away league games.

Players to watch: Matt Godden closed out Coventry’s scoring against Oxford, the third time from his last four scoring appearances he’s netted after the 85th minute. A double from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall secured Leicester's opening day H2H success and his goals are usually good luck charms, given all eight this season have arrived in wins.

Hot stat: Leicester have conceded exactly once in seven of their last nine away league games.
