Coventry Swansea prediction 2023-12-29

Coventry vs Swansea prediction: ENGLAND: Championship betting tips on match 2023-12-28 19:45.
Coventry City will begin Friday’s round in 13th place, although with only three points covering sixth to 14th, a home win over Swansea City could see the Sky Blues jump up a handful of places. They’d need some results in their favour to jump right into the play-off mix, but with only one defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena all season (W5, D6), and victories in three of their last four in front of their fans, it would not be a surprise to see Mark Robins’ side keep their part of the bargain.

It is not just at home where the Sky Blues have been impressive of late, as only two sides in the Championship have picked up more points than Coventry over the last eight fixtures (W5, D2, L1). The last of those was a 2-0 Boxing Day win over Sheffield Wednesday, a result which means that Coventry have registered a clean sheet in each of their last six victories, and confirmed them as the fourth best defensive unit in the division with just 25 goals against.

There was far less festive cheer for Swansea, who lost 5-0 on Tuesday to former manager Russell Martin’s Southampton in a match which marked the first time since April 2022 that they had conceded five goals in a Championship fixture. Martin’s replacement, Michael Duff, was sacked in early December and caretaker manager Alan Sheehan may need to change his approach in this game after going to the south coast and “trying to go toe-to-toe with one of the form sides in the division.”

With only two victories from their last ten (D4, L4), and up against another top team, it could be another tough match for the Swans who begin the day in 17th. However, with no defeat against Coventry since 1981 (W7, D9), and four wins from their last eight road trips (D1, L3), the Welsh fans do have some hope to cling to ahead of their final fixture of 2023.

Players to watch: Coventry midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto continued his fine December form with a brace against Sheffield Wednesday, adding to a goal and two assists already this month. Matt Grimes has also had a strong month for Swansea with assists against Preston and Stoke.

Hot streak: Swansea haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last nine games.
