Darmstadt B. Monchengladbach prediction 2023-09-17

Darmstadt vs B. Monchengladbach prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-09-16 15:30.
It has been a baptism of fire for newly-promoted Darmstadt, who have begun the Bundesliga season with three consecutive defeats. It goes down as their worst three-game start to a top-flight season, after they picked up at least one point by this stage on the way to each of their three historic relegations from the top flight, most recently when they had three points after three games ahead of finishing finishing rock-bottom in 2016/17.

One could perhaps forgive Darmstadt for that poor start, as each of the teams they’ve faced thus far were top-seven finishers last season. Here, they’ll face 2022/23’s tenth-place side, Borussia Mönchengladbach, a side they took two points from in their last relegation-bound campaign, whilst Darmstadt also knocked them out of the DFB Pokal just last season on the way to a round of 16 exit.

Things haven’t gone much better for Bundesliga mainstays Gladbach, who have matched their 2021/22 Bundesliga start by registering just one point in three rounds. It’s not all bad news for Foals fans, as they almost solidified their status as Bayern Munich’s ‘bogey team’ when taking the lead against the reigning champions in round three, albeit they failed to see out the game, whilst a stunning four-goal haul against Augsburg in round one shows this side can score heavily.

Simply scoring goals may not be enough here, even against one of the favourites for relegation. To paint a rather bleak picture, Gladbach scored at least twice in two of their four league games against newly promoted opponents last season, yet failed to win a single game (D3, L1)! They did, however, win all four games against promoted sides in the season prior, so there is hope that last season was simply a blip.

Key battle: Perennial rascal Marvin Mehlem has already picked up two bookings and a goal in three Bundesliga games this term. Only one 2.Bundesliga player was shown more yellows than the Darmstadt man’s 12 last season! Trying to shackle him will be Gladbach defender Ko Itakura, who played 90 minutes in Japan’s 4-1 win over Germany during the break that proved to be the end of Hansi Flick as Germany boss. Prior to that, he registered two goals for the Foals.

Hot stat: Gladbach faced a league-high 69 shots (23 per game) in the first three Bundesliga rounds.
