Darmstadt Dortmund prediction 2024-01-13

Darmstadt vs Dortmund prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2024-01-12 17:30.
Darmstadt return from the winter break this weekend seeking to continue their fight to avoid an immediate return to Germany’s second tier. Kicking off 2024 with their first win since early October 2023 would be the best way to begin that quest (D3, L6), although achieving that against Borussia Dortmund will be no mean feat.

They did actually register a 2-1 home win over Dortmund when finishing bottom in their most recent Bundesliga campaign back in 2016/17, but that remains their only H2H victory in the 21st century (W1, D1, L2). Despite that slight psychological positive, Darmstadt have the burden of winning just once in home league action this season (D2, L5) whilst being just one of two sides averaging 2+ conceded goals per home league game ahead of the round.

Bundesliga runners-up in 2022/23, Dortmund began this league season in promising fashion with nine unbeaten games, yet just one win across their final seven games of 2023 (D3, L3) left them languishing in fifth over the break. It’s not all bad news for the esteemed club, who did win their Champions League group and are boosted by the return of former players Nuri Şahin and Sven Bender to work with beleaguered boss Edin Terzić as assistants.

One must look all the way back to September to find Dortmund’s last away victory in domestic action (D3, L2), though both defeats in that sequence came against high flying Stuttgart in both league and cup. A trip to face lowly Darmstadt should be more fruitful, especially seeing as Dortmund are yet to lose to any team at any venue in league action who begin this round below them this season (W7, D5).

Players to watch: Tim Skarke will hope to hit the ground running in 2024 by extending his six goal Bundesliga haul for Darmstadt, which includes goals in their only two league wins this season. That’s one more than Dortmund’s joint-top league scorer Niclas Füllkrug (G5), who had a hand in his side’s sole goal in each of their last three league away trips (G1, A2).

Hot stat: 75% of Dortmund’s league games this season (12 of 16) have seen both teams score, including all seven of their away encounters.
