Eintracht Frankfurt vs Darmstadt prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-08-19 15:30.
It’s been a summer of change in the dugout for Eintracht Frankfurt, with 2021/22 Europa League winning boss Oliver Glasner departing, and Dino Toppmöller taking over the reins. Toppmöller had previously been the assistant to Julien Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, as Frankfurt now hope he can help them improve on their seventh-placed finish last season.
The first issue he’ll face is Frankfurt’s recent opening day record, with the Eagles failing to take three points in a curtain raiser since 2019 (D1, L2), a torrid run that includes last year’s 6-1 hammering by eventual league winners Bayern Munich. However, they went on to lose only two further home league games (W9, D5) and conceded only 12 more league goals at Deutsche Bank Park all season.
Back in the top flight of German football for the first time since 2016/17, Darmstadt’s primary ambition will be to stay in the division, as across their three previous stints in the Bundesliga, they were immediately relegated twice and lasted just two seasons in the other. However, they open this campaign with a trip to their near-neighbours, and Die Lilien can expect to be well supported with approximately 30km distance between the two stadiums.
Whether Darmstadt supporters will return home in a positive frame of mind is another matter though, as in spite of promotion, their side lost six of their final 12 second-tier fixtures last season. They were beaten in both of their last two league away games, receiving three red cards across the matches, and Torsten Lieberknecht will need his side to retain their discipline in this clash in spite of it being a local derby.
Players to watch: Randal Kolo Muani attracted the interest of Manchester United and Bayern Munich after 15 goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga last season. It’s easy to see why, with Frankfurt avoiding defeat in each of the last 20 games across all competitions when he has scored. Fraser Hornby, who played for relegated Belgian side Oostende last season, scored six of his eight league goals in away games and will be keen to make an immediate impact at his new club.
Hot streak: Eintracht Frankfurt have not drawn 0-0 in the Bundesliga since April 2022, a run of 40 matches.
