Everton vs Luton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2023-09-29 14:00.
Everton boss Sean Dyche shared his satisfaction at finally getting the result his team’s performance deserved on Saturday as the Toffees beat Brentford 3-1 on the road. It was only Brentford’s second home Premier League (PL) defeat in 12 months and added weight to the notion that Dyche’s side had been unlucky to have not accumulated more PL points than their four after the opening six rounds (W1, D1, L4).
Reinforcing that belief is the fact Everton have averaged 14.2 shots per PL game so far, their highest average in the division since the 14.8 they were posting under Roberto Martinez in 2013/14 – a campaign in which they went on to finish fifth! A repeat of that feat this season is unlikely, especially given their home form remains an ongoing issue. Indeed, with Everton winning only one of their last eight PL games at Goodison Park (D1, L6), they could now become the first side in top-flight history to lose their opening four home matches without scoring!
Luton would love to be the ones to inflict that unwanted piece of history on the home side after enduring a rough start of their own on their return to the top flight. They’ve played a game less than their hosts but have yet to secure a win (D1, L4) and are now facing the prospect of failing to win any of their opening six league games in any division for just the fourth time in their history.
Misery from their bad start was compounded on Tuesday night when they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League One Exeter City. Manager Rob Edwards bemoaned that his side “never looked like scoring” in the game, which is an extension of ongoing attacking woes that have resulted in them being the only remaining PL side yet to take the lead this season.
Players to watch: Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s strike from the bench at Brentford means he needs just two more PL goals to become just the fourth player to score 50 in the competition for Everton. Luton inspiration will likely come from Carlton Morris, who has either scored or assisted each of their three PL goals this term (G2, A1).
Hot stat: Everton haven’t won successive PL games since September/October 2022.
