Everton vs Southampton prediction: ENGLAND: Premier League betting tips on match 2025-05-17 11:00.
[p]This is set to be an emotional occasion for Everton as they prepare to play their 2,791st and final men’s senior contest at Goodison Park. They will hope to sign off by adding to the 1,538 competitive victories already accumulated, and will be high on confidence after beating European-chasing Fulham at Craven Cottage last week (3-1) to grab their first win in four outings (D1, L2). [/p]
[p]They probably couldn’t have picked a better game to finish on, facing an already relegated Southampton. But the South Coast side have become somewhat of a bogey outfit of late for Everton, with the Toffees already losing twice to them this season (League Cup on penalties, Premier League 1-0). It’s not ideal form when one also considers that the Merseyside club are without a win in their past seven competitive home matches (D5, L2). [/p]
[p]Southampton are playing only for pride and restored some of that last weekend with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at home to Manchester City. That made it two defeats from their past four matches (D2) which is, relatively speaking, an improvement in results for a side who have struggled all term. Now they have a chance to pick up their first win since February, and with that secure a league double over Everton for the first time since 1997/98.[/p]
[p]However, their record at this famous old ground isn’t great, even despite some recent success against their hosts. A Premier League win here back in January 2023 ended what had been a rotten run of 17 games without a league win at Goodison Park (D5, L12), while 2003 was the last time they kept a league clean sheet at the venue. [/p]
[p]Players to watch: Beto is Everton’s top Premier League scorer this season (G8), with all but one of those goals coming since the turn of the year. Mateus Fernandes’ most recent goal for Southampton came last month at Tottenham, but he remains their most dangerous player with more shots than any other Saints man (40). [/p]
[p]Hot stat: Everton are the only team yet to concede a penalty goal in the Premier League this season.[/p]
