FC Volendam vs FC Emmen prediction: NETHERLANDS: Eredivisie betting tips on match 2023-03-03 17:45.
As good as FC Volendam were in their last home game of Eredivisie football (W 2-0 against Vitesse), they were equally poor when visiting Gelderland’s other top-flight club last weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 beating at the hands of NEC Nijmegen. Wim Jonk’s side overall have improved since the World Cup break, winning nearly half of their matches (W4, D2, L3), but in 14th place at the start of the round they are hardly safe. In fact, if they sustain a loss here to next opponents FC Emmen, they could end the weekend back in the dreaded bottom-three.
Together with Excelsior Rotterdam, Volendam are one of just two sides to have conceded greater than 50 goals this Eredivisie season. Their home fixtures in 2023 paint a much different picture, though, and those turning out to the Kras Stadium on a regular basis have been spoiled. A 1-1 draw against high-flying AZ Alkmaar was the only blip in their home journey this calendar year (W3, D1), a sharp improvement from the five consecutive home defeats they sustained in 2022!
Emmen losing just one of their last four Eredivisie matches may sound promising, but in reality they have squandered some valuable opportunities to propel themselves out of the relegation zone. The three draws from those four league matches were all against fellow bottom-half clubs, and not only will that be looked back upon as a very costly period if they are to be relegated, but it understandably leaves many wondering how they are even going to defeat someone like Volendam this week.
There will be no shortage of motivation for the visiting side, though, for they could leapfrog not only Volendam but potentially even Excelsior Rotterdam depending on how they fare against Sparta on Sunday. But travelling has certainly not been their strong point of the season: a 1-1 stalemate at Groningen followed three consecutive away losses, and Emmen don’t even have a psychological advantage to draw upon after failing to defeat Volendam in the reverse H2H (D 1-1) last October.
Players to watch: Carel Eiting has already provided seven assists for his side in the Eredivisie this season, despite their ongoing scoring issues, including one in the away match against Emmen earlier in 2022/23. More recently, Emmen’s Mark Diemers assisted goals in each of his last two Eredivisie games.
Hot stat: All but one of Volendam’s 25 competitive matches this season produced at least two total goals.
