Ferencvaros vs Trabzonspor prediction: EUROPE: Europa League – Group Stage betting tips on match 2022-09-07 19:00.
For record 33-time Hungarian Champions Ferencváros, the UEFA Europa League (UEL) is somewhat of a consolation prize having been dumped out of the Champions League (UCL) a little under a month ago. Ferencváros’ situation is almost identical to last season when they were dumped out of the UCL in qualifying and ended up in the UEL group stage, though they will hope to avoid a repeat of their fourth-place group finish last campaign.
The prospects appear bleak at first glance considering Ferencváros haven't gone beyond a UEFA group stage in their last five attempts, although they have started their domestic title defence in grand form, winning all five of their matches so far. Boss Stanislav Cherchesov’s side also have a positive European competition record against Turkish sides to fall back on (W4, D1, L1), including winning all three home games!
After a 38-year wait, Trabzonspor finally got their hands on the Turkish title again last season, but like their hosts, fell short in the UCL qualification phase and were forced to settle for a UEL spot. It’s a competition Trabzonspor certainly haven’t excelled in though, having never made it beyond the round of 32, whilst their last group stage appearance ended with five defeats and just a single draw on their way to a fourth-placed finish.
It appears hard to find much hope for Trabzonspor to cling onto here despite a fair start to their league campaign back home (W3, D1, L1), though their UEL group stage away record (W3, D2, L4) is respectable. That is until you consider those four defeats came across their last four such games, and with both their prior clashes against Hungarian opposition ending goalless at 90 minutes, this could prove to be a rather uneventful affair from a Trabsonspor perspective.
Players to watch: Ferencváros’ Adama Traoré has been on fire in Europe this season, netting in every UCL/UEL qualification tie, whilst Trézéguet is Trabzonspor’s only scorer across their last 287 minutes of football.
Hot streak: Trabzonspor are without a clean sheet in 11 UEL away games including qualifiers.
