Freiburg Basel prediction 2025-09-24

Freiburg vs Basel prediction: EUROPE: Europa League – League phase betting tips on match 2025-09-23 19:00.
[p]Basel play their first UEFA Europa League (UEL) main draw match in six years away at Freiburg. [/p]

[p]Match News and Current Form[/p]

[p]Freiburg enter this fixture buoyed by back-to-back Bundesliga victories, the latest of which – 3-0 against Werder Bremen – was their biggest win since February. The wonderfully nicknamed Breisgau Brazilians have also won their last four home games in the UEL – a run which includes a 5-0 thrashing of Olympiacos. That form at the Europa-Park Stadion has not been replicated domestically though, having lost four of their last seven such matches (W2, D1), so they will hope that a 3-1 win over Stuttgart last time out can signal a turnaround. [/p]

[p]Basel did qualify for the UEFA Champions League play-off round after winning the Swiss Super League for the first time in eight years last season, but after being beaten 3-1 on aggregate by Copenhagen, they have dropped down into European football’s secondary club competition. The start of their league title defence has certainly not been all rosy, with two defeats in their opening six games (W4), but they will hope that a return to playing overseas brings back happy memories of their run to the semi-finals of what was then called the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022/23 – their last main-draw appearance in Europe. [/p]

[p]Head-to-Head History[/p]

[p]These two clubs have never faced each other before. Freiburg’s record against Swiss sides stands at one win and one loss, with both matches in the old UEFA Cup, while Basel’s two previous meetings against German opposition in the current UEL both ended with clean-sheet victories. [/p]

[p]Hot Stats and Streaks[/p]

[p]Freiburg have got on the scoresheet at least once after half-time in 11 of their last 12 matches.[/p]

[p]Freiburg’s last eight games have each featured at least one goal before the break. [/p]

[p]Three of Basel’s last five wins in all competitions have included a red card for their opponents. [/p]

[p]Nine of Basel’s last 11 matches have seen both teams score. [/p]

[p]Key Players to Watch and Missing Players[/p]

[p]Igor Matanović scored a brace off the bench on his competitive Freiburg debut against Stuttgart earlier in September, emphatically ending an 11-month goal drought for club and country. Albian Ajeti netted in Basel’s last game against top-tier opponents, while four of his last five goalscoring appearances have been away from home. [/p]

[p]Freiburg may be without Junior Adamu here after the Austria international, who scored against Bremen, then went off with a knock. Bénie Traore and Finn van Breemen both missed Basel’s cup win at Étoile Carouge due to leg and knee injuries respectively.[/p]

[p]Betting Analysis[/p]

[p]Given both sides’ involvement in a lot of entertaining games lately, betting on over 2.5 total goals seems likely to bear fruit. [/p]
