Freiburg Werder Bremen prediction 2023-08-26

Freiburg vs Werder Bremen prediction: GERMANY: Bundesliga betting tips on match 2023-08-25 13:30.
After a memorable 2022/23 that saw Freiburg knock Bayern Munich out of the DFB-Pokal and achieve their highest finish in a decade, they picked up where they left off in the opening round, winning 2-1 away to Hoffenheim at decent odds. Now heading into his 12th home league campaign as manager, Christian Streich has declared that his side will stand for “proper football” in the upcoming campaign, and two domestic victories from two outings suggests they’re off to the right start.

Freiburg picked up 58% of their points at home last season and were beaten only by the top-three finishers in home league action (W10, D4, L3), suggesting they don’t mind shouldering expectations of victory. In fact, seven of their nine league defeats at any venue came against the four sides who finished above them, with their overall Bundesliga record against the remaining clubs standing at an imperious W17, D8, L2 since the start of 2022/23.

That record includes two victories against Werder Bremen, a side who were dispatched 4-0 by Bayern Munich on the opening day. Bremen boss Ole Werner admitted his side didn’t have enough “courage in defending” against Bayern; and whilst it’s a result that to many felt inevitable from the outset, it more importantly stretched their winless run to a rather alarming seven competitive games (D1, L6).

Playing away could be just the tonic for Bremen as they were the only Bundesliga side to pick up more points on the road (19) than they did at home (17) last season, albeit that wasn’t particularly tough given that they were the worst performing Bundesliga home side. If they are to get anything here they may need a boatload of goals after conceding at least twice in nine of their 11 trips to last year’s 11 highest finishing clubs (W1, D4, L6).

Players to watch: Roland Sallai has enjoyed a sensational start to 2023/24, posting Flashscore ratings of 8.00+ in both games so far whilst contributing to three of Freiburg’s four goals (G2, A1). With the future of last season’s joint Golden Boot winner Niclas Füllkrug up in the air, Bremen may need Marvin Ducksch to step up to the plate and build upon his 12 league goals last season which contributed to 60% of their victories.

Hot streak: Amongst the current Bundesliga crop, Freiburg are the only side not to lose as pre-match favourites since the start of last season (W15, D5).
